No horses for courses

Vall de Cavall is a substantial horse riding centre set in the countryside just outside Gata de Gorgos at Km 3 heading south on the N332. The restaurant is surrounded by paddocks and a row of stables nearby. The interior of the restaurant comprises a series of comfortable interlinking rooms.

Although Vall de Cavall has a menu del día, we had to ask for it and even then our server did not have a printed version for us to peruse. The menu costs €17.50 including a glass of wine. We selected mousse de foie gras and a diced avocado salad for our starters and these were accompanied by Darsena Verdejo from Rueda (€13.85).

For our main course there were three fish dishes on offer, Bacalao, Dorada and Rape (Monkfish) and one of our team had the latter, which was quite small, but tasty. On the meat front there was no horse but a choice of beef or Magret de Pato with an absolutely stunning black cherry sauce. The duck was unfortunately a bit on the tough side.

However the best was saved for last, as our desserts, a white chocolate mousse with  a sauce of warm fruits of the forest and a dark chocolate mousse in the form of a well brimming with liquid chocolate, were both outstanding. Total p.p. €25.15
