Punctuality in Pedramala

It is somewhat unusual in Spain to be told when booking for lunch that the kitchen will close at three o´clock, as most restaurants are only getting into their stride at that time. Nonetheless we adapted to the routine of this German owned restaurant and by the time our lunch was over we were glad we had done so, even though we waited 30 minutes before our first courses were served.

Restaurante Pedramala is located on Carretera la Fustera which runs from Benissa down to the Mediterranean coast, and is perched on a bend in the road with a stunning view over Calpe´s Peñon de Ifach.

Comfortable yellow armchairs around each table are a feature of the decor of Pedramala interior and add to the dining experience.

The menu del día is priced at €19.80. The starter was a delicious salad of foie gras with a blackcurrant coulis and this was followed by strips of beef in a mushroom sauce with wonderful rösti. The dessert was vanilla ice cream with fruits.

As there were no choices available in the menu del día, some of group went à la carte and for their choice of starters both chose freshly made salads – a substantial tuna salad and a salad Venezia featuring mozzarella cheese and sliced tomato.

For main course the choices were generous portions of pork with fried onions and bacon and a house speciality, spare ribs “Ifach” served with a delicious barbeque sauce and golden brown chips.

Our host selected a very palatable Palacio Menade Verdejo from Rueda (€15.25) and the acceptable house red which was Acantus from Tierra de Castilla priced at €9.90. This enjoyable lunch, with attentive service in comfortable surroundings cost  €30 p.p.
