RESTAURANTE B.B., VERGEL 965750575
Tops for chicken!
Restaurante B.B. started life as the Chicken Shack many years ago on the site of what is now a Lidl supermarket on the outskirts of Vergel. After the owners of Chicken Shack sold the site, they built their new restaurant just around the corner on Avenida Valencia. It is a substantial restaurant with seating for over 300 customers inside and possibly a further 100 outdoors on the patios.
Although there is nothing intimate about B.B. it is nonetheless impressive, particularly the open plan kitchen area where scores of chickens are roasted on rotating spits.
There is no menu del día as such, but B.B.´s speciality is a roasted half chicken with delicious barbecue sauce, priced at the remarkable price of just €6, including wonderful crispy fries. A number of us chose this for our main course and were very satisfied.
We shared the substantial salad between two as a starter, again priced at €6, as there was far too much for one person.
For the main course, in addition to the house speciality chicken, some of our party opted for a full rack of ribs and a brochette of really tender beef all served with B.B.´s great barbecue sauce.
Our host pushed the boat out on wine: we started with Darsena Rueda Verdejo (€12), then traded up to Faustino reserva from Rioja (€15) and finally a rather disappointing Valencian wine called La Tribu (€10).
B.B. is a great place for lunch for families or a group of friends. The food is wonderful, the service is rapid and friendly and the price is right; in our case it amounted to just €22.87 p.p.
