RESTAURANT CUADROS, GATA DE GORGOS 965756092
Restaurant Cuadros is located just off the CV 734, which runs between Gata de Gorgos and Jesus Pobre towards Javea. Cuadros is a single storied building and we settled into the Riu Rau part of the restaurant looking out onto the patio and some Nispero trees with the imposing Montgó mountain as a backdrop. The décor is typical for the region with wooden tables with blue tablecloths and functional high backed chairs.
There was no menu del día available so we ordered a selection of starters to share before addressing the main course. The starters included an excellent walnut, tomato and lettuce salad, meatballs, anchovies, grilled red and black pudding, as well as pan alioli and fresh crushed tomato.
Remarkably for a restaurant just a few kilometres from the Mediterranean coast, there were no fish dishes for the main course so we selected most of the meat options: lamb chops (€12), garlic rabbit (€11.50), roast leg of lamb (€16), braised pork (€12) and grilled entrecote (€16). All acceptable.
We were the only customers on a rather cloudy and depressing Friday. Apparently Cuadros is more of an evening venue. Together with desserts, coffees and brandies our fishless Friday amounted to a pricey €39.55 p.p.
