Restaurant Mykonos is situated on the seafront in Altea at Calle Sant Pere 23, facing east towards its namesake island in the Cyclades. The restaurant itself is furnished in typically Greek style and with rather Spartan upright chairs. Our server was from Salonika.
It is sometimes said that the best Greek cuisine is to be found outside Greece and we decided that we would explore the à la carte menu as the options of the menu del día (€12.90 for two courses and a coffee, but no wine), did not excite our taste buds.
We shared a plate of Meze (€8.50) which comprised mixed pulses, peppers, onions, tomatoes and yoghurt. It was fresh and flavoursome and also entitled us to an ouzo at the end of the meal. For the main course we had Stifado (€10.60) which turned out to be beef, onion and tomato presented in a colourful lidded pot, lamb with rice (also €10.60) and prawns with a spicy sauce and fries (€14.70).
Mykonos does not have a wine list as such, but both house wines were of a good standard and reasonably priced. The white was Viña Pati from Rueda and the red was from Jumilla and called Cinglano Crianza 2009, both priced at €8.70.
Together with coffees and aperitifs the total p.p. amounted to €26.65
