MONTIVEDEO, BENITATXELL 966493142

Rustic steak house offering good value
Restaurante Montivedeo is to be found on the edge of Benitatxell on the road leading to Cumbre del Sol. It is in a free standing building with a substantial car park and the interior is furnished in a welcoming rustic style.
The current owners have only run this restaurant for less than a month, but the chef has a lot of experience from working in many of the best known restaurants in nearby Moraira.
The menu del día costs just €14 including a half bottle of wine.
We were presented with croquetas of cod before we started our first courses of ceasar salad, onion soup and timbal of vegetables. All good honest dishes.
The house wines were both from Tierra de Castilla, the white, a verdejo with the unusual name of Montalvo Wilmot and the red was called Quintos de la Tejera. Both perfectly acceptable.
Our main courses included salmon steak, roast rabbit and roast shoulder of lamb and oven cooked rice. All wholesome.
Desserts were panacota al caramel which turned out to be blancmange, and pumpkin pie but not quite to the standard of the earlier courses.
However in terms of value for money Montivideo is hard to beat and including coffees and brandies our rustic lunch cost just over €18 p.p.
