Handy for the flicks
Located next to the cinema in Javea, all the ingredients seemed in place for a highly successful lunch. A mere stroll from our aperitifs, enthusiastic lunchers, tasteful décor, well priced and varied menu del día (€13.90) complete with warm and friendly service.
However not quite up to expectations; perhaps a “bad day at the office”.
The menu del día starters were an excellent vichyssoise, mussels, croquetas of ham and cheese – all good quality but in rather meagre portions. The starters were served with a very acceptable white wine from Utiel Requena called Las2ces.
Things then went somewhat awry; the monkfish stew was too chewy, the arroz abanda although excellent was more akin to arroz negra. Finally two of our group ordered pork but were served lamb!
The red wine selected by our host was from Alicante called Vermador (€11) and was well appreciated.
The dessert, a combo of pumpkin tart, fruit and ice cream was perfectly acceptable. Coffees and brandies (kindly offered by Jose Luis of La Renda) completed our eventful lunch. Though a disappointment, one was left with the impression that this was just one of those off days that every establishment suffers. There will surely be better days.
