Good value al fresco fare

 

Casa Edy is located at 35 Av. Mediterráneo, the main street running through Teulada. From the street the restaurant does not attract attention but once you enter, it is deceptively large in size with a substantial terrace providing a pleasant venue for al fresco dining.

There are two menus del día priced at €15 and €20 according to the main course selected. All but one of our group chose the cheaper menu yet curiously the more expensive meal was the disappointing one with a chewy entrecote for main course.

Amongst the starters were mussels served with a delicious soup, scrambled eggs with mushrooms, boquerones and a seafood platter – all good.

   

For main course we enjoyed baby squid, sole, lamb chops and pork fillet and these were accompanied by the house wines, both from Albacete and called Santa Negro, the white a Macabeo and the red a Tempranillo. Both wines were priced at the bargain price of just €4.

              

           

Desserts and chopitos completed our pleasant lunch costing a competitive €17.80 p.p.

What a breeze!

 

La Brisa is a family run bar restaurant offering outstanding value for money.

The restaurant is located on Calle Calpe 58 which is a backstreet near the sportshall and municipal swimming pool at the top of Teulada. La Brisa is unpretentious with simple furniture and orange coloured walls.

The menu del día costs €12.50 and includes tapas, bread and alioli, a starter, a main course, dessert, wine, coffee and a liqueur or brandy!

Whilst we were perusing the menu, dishes of olives, sweet onions, peanuts and patatas bravas were produced without any prompting. The house wine quickly followed and was from La Mancha; the white was Albadia del Roble and the red was a Tempranillo Crianza called Ossária.

For starters we had tasty grilled vegetables, an excellent fish soup and cocktail de gambas. The main courses selected were grilled steak with a fried egg, lamb chops and spare ribs, all good honest cuisine.

Desserts included homemade chocolate mousse, apple tart with ice cream and cheesecake.DSC00313

Finally we had our coffees accompanied by a cream liqueur or mistella. When one of our members asked for brandy a bottle of Magno was produced!

All in all La Brisa is a no frills experience of good food and drink at a very competitive price; long may it continue.
