Hearty food in rustic surroundings
Verd i Vent is a rambling farmhouse located at km5 on a corner of the Jalon to Bernia road. There is nothing particularly attractive or inviting about the restaurant from the outside but once inside the building there are whitewashed rooms of all shapes and sizes decorated with rustic bric-a-brac.
The menu del día costs €18 for five courses and all the wine you can drink. The wine is served in litre carafes which are filled directly from a barrel at one end of the main dining room. The red wine is pleasant enough but our white wine expert was not impressed with the white offering.
We started our lunch with a dish of warm potato salad with garlic and herb sauce. This was followed by a large bowl of hearty vegetable soup. Then we moved on to a simple fresh salad.
Whilst we were enjoying our main course three musicians added to the atmosphere of the restaurant with medley of well-known Latin American songs.
Tasty crepes were served for dessert and completed our lunch.
Verd i Vent has for many years been a popular stopping off point for tourists visiting Sierra Bernia and the restaurant was already substantially full when we arrived for lunch. It is a credit to the team that run the restaurant that they have upped their game since the last time our club lunched here back in 2008 and provided us with such an enjoyable experience for €19.40 p.p.
