Ca Pinet, Alcalali 965884229
Café Americano not available…
Ca Pinet is a museum of Communism and there are wonderful photographs, posters, flags and historic bric-a-brac to feast your eyes on before settling down to lunch or supper. It is located in Alcalali at Passeig del Pou, no. 14 although for many years it was based in the centre of the village of Tarbena in the mountains to the south.
There is a menu del día available priced according to the main course selected, all rice based and ranging in price from €14 to €20. Both the menu del día and the á la carte menu includes a half bottle of wine in the price.
For starters we enjoyed meatballs with almond sauce, aspencat, sobrasada with honey and various tapas.
For wine the white was an Alicante called El Pinar de Villena which was passable. The red was marketed under the Ca Pinet label from the Co-operativa in Jalon. Both wines were priced at €10 after the free half bottle.
For main course we chose pork chops (€12), lamb cutlets (€14) and one of hungrier members opted for a half kilo beef entrecote (€20). Everyone was satisfied with their choice. The desserts were homemade and we moved on to coffees and chopitos. This proved to be an interesting part of our lunch as we discovered that whilst we could have café solos, café con leche etc., we could not order “Americanos”! One of our group then suggested ordering a café Cubano but was told to order an Anti-Americano instead….
All good fun and our communist lunch set us back €33.60 p.p.
