CASA PARRA GATA DE GORGOS 965756121
The town of Gata de Gorgos grew prosperous over the centuries producing a wide range of items woven from wicker, esparto grass and palm. One consequence of this wealth was that the richer merchants built fine town houses such as the one at 86 Avenida Marina Alta, which is now the home of Casa Parra.
The family run restaurant occupies the tiled hallway and adjoining rooms on the ground floor of the traditional townhouse. The restaurant was full of predominantly Spanish customers as we secured the last table.
The menu del día is very competitively priced at just €10 including pan alioli, salad, a starter, main course, dessert, coffe and a glass of house wine. We chose a classic Spanish vegetable soup and entremesas –a selection of cold cuts of meat and cheese.
Desserts included a coffee flan and a selection of ice creams. The house wines were an acceptable Don Hugo white and Viñedo del Rieno red – but our host kindly added to the pleasure of our meal with a bottle of Beryna 2009, a surprisingly tasty Alicante wine from Villena costing €15.
Total cost per person for good family fare amounted to €17.70.
