BARRIO FIESTA JALON 966480488
Barrio Fiesta is located on the corner of Calle Judas, just off the Plaza Mayor in the centre of Jalon. The establishment promotes itself as a bar and Thai restaurant although the owner Edna is in fact from the Philippines.
As we settled into our seats to enjoy a glass of Bach cava (€15 per bottle) one couldn´t ignore a flat screen on the wall showing videos of the Spice Girls performing their hits. Our charming hostess was helped by the appropriately named Jade, from Hounslow.
Barrio Fiesta has an “eat all you can” menu del día of some 20 dishes. Rather than go through all twenty, we asked Edna to make a representative selection for us.
Our starters included stir fry vegetables, spring rolls and Thai fish cakes. All authentic Thai cuisine and delicious too. There were two soups included in the list of twenty dishes on offer but we did not sample either of them.
Instead we pushed on with stir fried chicken, noodle and beef dishes. All good. In fact our only niggle was that some of us felt there could perhaps have been a prawn dish on offer, but it was not to be.
The wines selected by our host to accompany our spicey meal were a Macebeo white called Vinalopó from Alicante and Azabache from Rioja, both priced at €16. Together with coffies and brandies, our enjoyable lunch with the Spice Girls amounted to €21.40 p.p.
