AWRABA, ORBA 686427901
Genuine
Awraba is the Moorish name for Orba and indeed the interior of the restaurant has a Moorish feel about it.
Our lunch club last visited Awraba six years ago when it was run by English ex-pats. It now has Spanish owners and they offer a competitively priced menu del día at €10, including drinks.
Walking down Calle Mayor, Awraba is located at No. 32 and it blends into the streetscape; however on entering the restaurant one is impressed by the atmosphere, generated by high vaulted ceilings.
We started with an honest vegetable soup and a stew of beans and fish. Although wine is included in the €10 menu price, our host decided to trade up and selected a Rueda called Habla de la Tierre (€8).
Our main courses were pork fillet with a delicious creamy pepper sauce, chicken fillet and a moist tuna steak all served with a skewer of peppers, rice and a side dish of fries. We moved onto a Rioja again modestly priced at just €11.
For dessert we chose tarta de chocolate and fresh melon. Together with coffee and brandy this enjoyable, unfancy, genuine lunch cost €19.50 p.p.
