Lunch with a view
Perched on the fifth and top floor of Hotel Javea in the port of Javea, Restaurante Attico offers good food with stunning views. The menu del día is priced at €14.95 and includes three starters per person, a main course, dessert and a glass of house wine.
The starters consisted of a mozzarella salad, a puff pastry parcel with tuna and a tikka chicken skewer with mint sauce. Of the three the tuna dish was the most pleasing.
The house wines branded Cal y Canto, were from Tierra de Castilla; the white, a verdejo and the red, a tempranillo merlot blend. Both acceptable but our host decided the red could be improved upon and so we switched to the reliable Enate crianza 2008 from Somontano (€19.80).
For main course most of us selected pork fillet with peaches and a sweet and sour sauce, and it was delicious. The remainder chose lamb chops with rosemary and honey which was a bit on the bland side. There was also hake cooked basque style available, but there were no takers.
Desserts were either toffee caramel flan or brownie with ice cream; again nothing to write home about.
However the views over the bay towards Arenal are stunning and that is the memory that we will cherish from our lunch at Attico.
